Mapping Miner Locations in OptiFleet

Find your miners fast by keeping their locations updated

Overview

Keep miner locations updated to have granular control over miners by location.

Use Cases

  • Add new miners to the system
  • Simplify large-scale deployments with bulk mapping
  • Bring miners back onto the system after returning from repair
  • Deploy spare units
  • Consolidate miners to manage rack density and model or customer grouping
  • Swap a control board and link the control board MAC address with the chassis serial #

Permissions Required:

Both Facility Admins and Technicians have permission to update miner locations across all areas.

Moving Miners Using Site Map

To relocate an existing miner:

  1. Navigate to the Site Map
  2. Click on the miner that needs to be moved
  3. Select Edit Miner from the dropdown menu
  4. In the Location dropdown, select an available slot from the list. The system displays only available locations to prevent conflicts. See below if you need to free up a slot.
  5. Click Submit to save the location change

To free up a slot for another miner:

  1. Click on the miner currently occupying the target slot
  2. Select Unassign Miner from the dropdown menu
  3. The slot immediately becomes available for reassignment to another miner

Assigning New Miners Using IP Report

For newly installed miners:

  1. Navigate to the Site Map & scroll to the Zone you want to edit
  2. Click IP Report in the top right corner of the Zone display
  3. Click on the empty slot where the miner was physically installed
    • The selected slot will begin blinking green to indicate waiting for signal.
  4. Go to the physical miner location and press the IP report button on the device
  5. OptiFleet automatically assigns the miner to that location when it detects the network ping generated by the IP report button.

Network Requirement: This feature requires broadcast forwarding or VLAN trunking to be enabled on the network infrastructure.

Alternative Methods for Location Changes

From Miner List:

  1. Navigate to the Miner List
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the target miner
  3. Select Edit Miner or Unassign Miner based on the required action
  4. Make the necessary location changes using the available options

From Individual Miner Dashboard:

  1. Navigate to the specific miner's dashboard
  2. Click the Actions menu
  3. Select Edit Miner
  4. Use the Location dropdown to assign a new location or select Unassigned to free the slot

Bulk Operations:

  • Edit in Spreadsheet: Select multiple miners and use Edit in Spreadsheet to manually update locations in bulk. Ensure accurate formatting of location data to prevent errors during processing.
  • Bulk Edit: Use this option for mass unassigning operations by selecting Bulk Edit and entering "unassigned" in the location field for multiple miners simultaneously.

Linking Miners After Control Board Changes

When replacing a control board, the new MAC address requires linking to maintain historical miner data and operational continuity:

  1. Navigate to the individual miner dashboard for the offline miner
  2. Click the Actions menu and select Link Miner
  3. In the dropdown menu, select the IP address of the new control board
  4. Review the information transfer details:
    • Miner name, model, serial number, and worker name remain unchanged
    • IP address updates to reflect the new control board
    • Physical location stays the same
    • Previous control board MAC address will be permanently deleted from the system
  5. Click Accept to complete the linking process

Warning: Accepting this action will permanently delete the previous control board's MAC address from the system and cannot be undone. Ensure all information is correct before proceeding.

Bulk Miner Mapping for New Installations

For large-scale deployments or new container installations:

  1. Go to Miner List and select the target Zone you want to edit.
  2. Click the Actions menu and select Bulk Miner Map
  3. Click Download to obtain the CSV template specific to the zone
  4. Fill in the spreadsheet with the following information:
    • IP addresses (required)
    • Serial numbers (required)
    • Asset IDs (optional)
    • Rated hash rates (optional)
  5. Save the file in CSV format (do not convert to Excel format)
  6. Click Choose File and select the completed spreadsheet to upload it
  7. Click Validate to check for data errors and formatting issues.
    • If there are errors, this panel will show you what lines on the spreadsheet these errors occur so you can fix them. Errors may include missing required data or data format issues such as invalid IP addresses. The system allows bypassing some missing optional data and uploading the rest
    •  If there are no errors in the data format, the changes will be made.

To ensure the data format uploads properly:

  • Maintain CSV file format throughout the process - do not change to Excel
  • Do not add or reorder columns in the template
  • Do not add extra sheets to the workbook

Important:

  • This operation replaces all existing data for that Zone. Save a backup copy of the original download before making any changes, so you can restore the prior state of the database if things go pear-shaped.
